After taking the girls on a playdate this morning, we checked in on our little vegetable garden and found some more guests. Although we didn't let them stay, I couldn't resist taking some closeups of their tiny world.
There are all sorts of caterpillars and butterflies along with them, but they all start off as little eggs on the underside of leafy greens (like my broccoli here). The swirling colors of these little ones are amazing, and so was the fact that there were so many. And you can just make out the little marks where some must have fallen off.
I love how their bodies cinch up, and change colors and translucency as they grow. And they eat through the leaf in layers, so if you start to see light patches and holes in your garden you likely have some hungry caterpillars, too.

Stepping out into our little plot of earth and exploring it more closely always amazes me. When you take the time to slow down and look more closely at nature you're bound to find something beautiful. These moments in the garden help me to breathe and regroup--a necessity for any busy mama.
