I had the itch to sew up some dresses for the girls earlier this month, so I did the usual and poured through Pinterest and the blogosphere and, oh yeah, that shelf of craft books at my desk. My goal was to avoid a trip to the fabric store, so I got excited when I found a smocked sundress pattern by LiEr of Ikat Bag in my copy of Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders (I had the perfect stash of gingham for it). I've never done any smocking, but I'm always up for a challenge, and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out--even if the girls weren't all smiles posing for the camera afterwards.

I'm making plans for a little birthday sewing and fall knitting (I see socks and cowls in our future--hopefully), and it's been nice getting back to more traditional handiwork. But don't worry, I'll be back with more fun thrift store crafts soon! What have you been making lately?
