So today's the day! I've been busy as a bee getting things ready and today the Maker Mama shop is stocked and open. I have to admit that I've been pretty nervous about putting my work out there. When people hear that I'm a crafter they always ask what I sell, and up until now the answer has always been nothing. I haven't had a unique 'thing' that I've made to sell, and that's been a way of playing it safe. It's a goal of mine to continue making my living as a creative and I'm sure what that looks like will ebb and flow, and right now it looks like putting myself out there in new ways. I definitely have fears of my work not being good enough, but I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and into the ring anyway.
I was inspired to make my heart pillows and door hangers for a few different reasons. I fell in love with the look of the striped colored denim when I made my recycled denim quilt back in the summer. The colors lift me up every time I see them, and I love working with the reclaimed denim. Reusing materials instead of creating waste is extremely important to me--and there's something redeeming about taking unwanted scraps and turning them into something beautiful. The similarity in my own life this past year is no coincidence. This year as a single mom has been one of resilience. Of rising from the ashes of my former life, and picking up the scattered pieces to create a new picture.
These scrappy quirky hearts are imperfect and full of love. I hope that they bring a smile to your face when you look at them. I cut each pair of denim into panels, stitching them together in fun color combinations. The heart pillows are stuffed with poly-fil made from 100% recycled polyester fibers and the heart door hangers are filled with recycled t-shirts. I plan to have the pop up open until just before Valentine's Day, and will be adding some additional color varieties between now and then. I'd love to share my hearts with you, and they'd make for some perfect teacher's gifts as well! Thank you all so much for your support; I truly couldn't do this without you.
